Master Classes, Workshops and Seminars are important elements to further our students’ knowledge, to nurture their motivation and to increase their joy in music making. Thanks to our wide interpersonal network, partnerships with both foreign embassies as well as national and foreign cultural institutions, we are able to frequently enrich our students with inspiration brought upon by our visiting artists.

Master
Classes
A master class is a class where an expert teaches individual students in public. Master classes are held by acknowledged, respected and experienced artists and are designed to help not only the student in his/her quest for improvement but to do so in front of an audience, enabling everyone to observe and to learn from the ongoing process.
Active participants of a master class come primarily from our own student body and either have been selected by the corresponding department or have been chosen through the process of an audition. Space and time permitting, students from other music institutions may be offered a chance to actively participate as well.
Students, teachers and staff of the YPM Music School can generally observe these master classes for free. Visitors not actively enrolled or employed at SMYPM are usually required to pay a small admission fee.

A workshop is a class where one or more experts teach a group of students or an audience. These experts have a deep understanding of a given subject and may be renown artists or knowledgeable pedagogues. Compared to master classes, workshops are likely to actively involve everyone attending but are more limited in scope. They are designed to focus on a predetermined subject such as “Ornamentation in Baroque Music” and may be open to the public or held internally within the YPM Music School.
Participation in public workshops is generally free for students, teachers and staff of the YPM Music School. Visitors not actively enrolled or employed at SMYPM may be required to pay a small participation fee.
